KUALA TERENGGANU: The offices of three government agencies at the Wisma Negeri here were broken into on Monday and police are looking for a suspect to assist their investigation.
The offices of the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) and Forestry Department on the 8th floor and the Agriculture Department on the 5th floor were found ransacked yesterday morning.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner K Manoharan said the break in was detected by the staff when they arrived at their offices at around 7.15am yesterday.
He said only a clerk and several workers from the DID office had lodged reports about cash and gold bangles worth at RM5,000 being stolen from their office lockers while no reports of theft at the other two offices that were ransacked.
"We found the image of the suspect, believed to be a local and alone, from the CCTV footage at the building and hope those with information about the suspect could come forward to assist our investigations, " he said.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, state Agriculture Department director Mohd Yusof Maidin said the incident was the second break in at the office after a similar incident occurred in 2012.
He said the damages suffered by the department were only broken doors and lockers that were forced open as the suspect ransacked the office.
State Forestry Department director Azmi Nordin said the suspect pried open the office main door but did not take the laptops and other office items inside.
"We believed that he was looking for money but fortunately none of us left any cash at the office," he said, adding that a staff member lodged a report at the Kuala Terengganu police station at 8.30am yesterday.
