SELAMA: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin
Yassin said the rural sector would remain the main agenda of the
Government’s development while new plans would also be implemented for the
people living in the rural areas to have a better life.
During the opening of the Sungai Siputeh Mini-RTC (Rural Transformation
Centre) on July 12, he said the Government has always given special focus to
rural development, especially in terms of fund allocation for development
programmes.
Muhyiddin said the programmes, which have been implemented and also those to
be carried out, indicate that the Government has not neglected the rural
population.
He said in 2011, the Government constructed and upgraded 1,013km of rural
roads under the Improving Rural Basic Infrastructure NKRA, which benefited 425,377 people.
Muhyiddin said besides the new and restored network of roads, an additional
73,227 houses were also connected with treated water supply benefiting 366,135
people.
Electricity coverage benefited 27,004 households while 14,365 houses were
either constructed or renovated for the poor, he added.
