Cop denies taking bribe to fake urine test

ALOR SETAR: A police sergeant claimed trial in a Sessions Court to receiving a RM700 bribe to alter the result of a urine test two years ago.
Rijali Solah, 55, an assistant investigation officer with the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division in Yan, is alleged to have accepted the amount from Mohd Hizzam Hussin, 38, as an inducement to tamper with his urine test result.
Rijali allegedly committed the offence at Restoran Kak Chaq Ikan Bakar in Kuala Muda on May 12, 2014.
The offence carries a maximum 20 years’ jail and a fine of not less than five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if found guilty.
State MACC deputy public prosecutor A. Hafiizh Hafiizh Abu Bakar prosecuted the case.
He proposed a bail of RM10,000 for Rijali, who was represented by counsel S.P. Raman.
In mitigation, Raman appealed for a lower bail, on grounds that his client is a government servant.
He also told the court that Rijali has three school-going children to support.

Sessions judge Zanol Rashid Hussain set bail at RM7,000 in one surety and fixed Sept 26 to mention the case. Rijali posted bail.
