RECENTLY, I saw a government servant being insulted for closing a service counter at 4.30pm. Though the obedient civil servant explained the reason for closing the counter at that specific time, the person, a patient in a government clinic, made some very uncalled-for statements: “I am paying income tax to the Government and your salary is actually paid by me, therefore you must serve me. You don’t talk big.”
This really irked me as all working people in this country with chargeable incomes have to pay income tax regardless of whether they are in the government or private sector.
There are many people out there who think that since they are paying income tax, they expect government servants to dance to their tune. Little do they realise that government servants also pay income tax and therefore also contribute to the progress of the country. Please do not ill-treat civil servants.
